Club Project 2015
We are planning a club project for 2015 - a wide range SWR and Power meter. The project will consist of a bespoke RF head (designed by Duncan G3RQF) feeding an AD8307 log amplifier which is monitored by an Arduino displaying the results on a 16*2 LCD display. If we can continue the design we may even add an AD9850 DDS to allow sweeping of the RF and so produce an antenna analyser.
As well as a complete working SWR/.Power meter the project goals are:
One possible extension to the project might be the addition of an AD7850 DDS to allow frequency sweeping and serial connectivity to send results to a PC
Approximate Costs:
Since one of the primary goals is to introduce club members to microcontrollers and in particular the Arduino here is some material that might help
As well as a complete working SWR/.Power meter the project goals are:
- Good RF design principles and RF shielding
- Introduction to Arduinos, setting up the development environment and flashing an LED
- Using simple C code to connect to existing AD8307 and HD44780 display libraries
- Optional exercises to expand coding practice and knowledge on the Arduino
One possible extension to the project might be the addition of an AD7850 DDS to allow frequency sweeping and serial connectivity to send results to a PC
Approximate Costs:
- Arduino UNO compatible board (from China) £4
- 16*2 LCD display £3 (from China)
- AD8307 log amp £6 (SMT IC from China + SMT-Hole-thru adapter board)
- RF Head - tbd
- Enclosure - tbd
- Hookup wires - £2
Since one of the primary goals is to introduce club members to microcontrollers and in particular the Arduino here is some material that might help
This useful PDF provides not only an introduction to Arduinos but also to the Raspberry Pi which may be the subject of some other club project in the not too distant future.
